Love it or hate it, no one can deny that the Saint’s Row series is definitely a thing. It’s taken over-the-top to fairly peak levels in this latest installment from what we hear tell, and we hear a lot of tell since it seems just about everyone has had a chance to fully play this game before it even got released. Everyone but Tom 🙁
I for one didn’t really know about the series until my buddy told me I had to pick it up on steam sale because it was GTA with co-op and utter insanity. So I did and I have logged more hours than are reasonable on that game.
Now the 4th chapter is looming frighteningly close, like that pervy uncle your mom warns you about who gets a bit handsy, and my fiancee is leaving the country for a while. I am probably locked in my basement giggling like a 13 year old boy who just discovered his older brother’s porn stash.
With those disturbing metaphors I leave you all with one question: who’s with me?

Preordered it, although my system is not good enough to run it smoothly. Sadly that means that if I try to play co-op (at least if it’s the same as in the third one) hilarious stuff might happen due to the game actually running slower on bad computers, which co-op doen’t account for. So you have the occasional teleporting vehicles, people running faster than others, stuff not being where it should, and all the other fun stuff.
Also, you are playing as the President of the United States, and you stop an alien invasion inside the Matrix, what’s not to love?

Never played any of the Saint’s Row games – I played a demo of the first, which was pretty much a GTA knock-off, and I’m not all that keen on GTA…
However, Saint’s Row has since (I’m told) long outgrown it’s knock-off origins and embraced the crazy. Any game where you get to be a super-powered President of USA (press A to cure cancer, press B to fix world hunger) gets my vote! I will be buying it next week 🙂

The first one was a pretty serious game, the second had a bit of crazy, and the third turned it up to elevel. It’s a pretty nice sandbox game to just play around with.
Also, the character generator (the Inauguration Station) is free on Steam so go on and make your own Boss right now 🙂

Not intentionally. I do watch the show and he may have nested in my subconscious like a smug, obese brain weevil. Thank god for him!

Press X to kick someone in the balls so hard they exit Earth’s atmosphere.
Yeah, the evolution of the series has been kinda fun to watch. I also did not play the first one because it was a GTA knock-off and I had GTA so what was the point? SR2 I only played after having discovered 3 and it’s basically like GTA San Andreas, GTA but with some weird and wacky stuff thrown in because it’s fun. There are moments where it greatly surpasses San Andreas in terms of over-the-top antics, though, like the reality TV show that hires you to pretend to be a cop and murder civilians in the most brutal way possible. Then came SR3 which basically acknowledge that you’d done all this sort of thing before – building your gang up from scratch, stealing cars, dealing with regular cops – and it was like, well let’s get really crazy and now you’re fighting an international cadre of gangs that all want to claim the fame you worked so hard for except some of them are computer hackers so you have to fight them in cyberspace, some are luchadores so you have to wrassle ’em, and some are into bondage so… well let’s just say it’s an experience. The last 20 min of gameplay had me cackling madly throughout, first at the utterly amazing climactic battle and then at the epilogue because it had to have an epilogue to justify the even more ridiculous stuff it didn’t get to earlier and it brought the whole game into a weird full-circle. Just brilliant and easily cemented it as one of my favourite games ever.
I have high hopes for this 4th one. 33 more hours!

I love how just the character gen is 2.5 Gbs and is larger than most games from 10 years ago.

I wasn’t sure where else to share this. I just managed to get my SR3 character into the SR4 Inauguration Station and he showed up sans pants. I don’t know why he has no pants. He had pants when I downloaded him to the website.
Guys, the internet stole my pants!

I think the game is telling you that your character has to play the whole of SR4 without pants

I don’t see a problem with this.
(It was probably some weird pants that are not included in SR4, although why they would do that I don’t know)

Don’t go making this political, Monkey. I just want to run around the white house with no pants on and there’s only job that lets you do it.

Only three more days to go. Sometimes I think that games that need Steam should unlock at the same time everywhere on this planet, and not today in America, in three days in the EU, and sometime next month in Australia.

Couldn’t you go on a guided tour? As long as you’re wearing trousers, the Secret Service will never know you don’t have any pants on underneath.

Oh jeez, I’ll have finished it by then. I played until 5 am this morning and am 20% of the way through which is not bad, not bad at all. It’s not Skyrim but it’s not short.
