#98110 D&D 4th Edition OGL Petition

Posted by Pencil-Monkey on 06 April 2016 - 06:28 AM

Turns out that there's an old thread on RPG.net about a potential mash-up of D&D 4E and M:tG, which also includes some snide remarks about dear old Warlords of the Accordlands Accordions, as well as this interesting bit of information:

Actually, very shortly before WOTC bought TSR, I was a playtester for Wizard's MTG:RPG. While it had several very cool ideas, it was unplayable as written due to some severe balance problems.

My group wondered why our ideas for improvement were politely ignored..until we found out that WOTC bought TSR, thus dropping the idea.

See, now apart from actually wanting to carry on listening to you guys & thinking you were worth MONEY, this is why I became a patron! :D

And I was right - Steve, Tharus is actually a tank isn't he?!

Well, I suppose he is, yes. Just a bit... 8)

The party were feeling the death of Gerout, and Balazaar may have needed a wee bit of guidance on the magic front, so I thought I'd kill three birds with one sling shot :P

Hit the monsters...Heal the party...Show the wizard how it's done...

#98088 D&D 4th Edition OGL Petition

Posted by Pencil-Monkey on 30 March 2016 - 07:45 AM

I don't really know enough about 4e to know what it might be a suitable system for, though.

D&D 4E has often been accused by its detractors of having too many card game elements, and (as Hal has put it) every PC is basically a wizard, with super impressive magic powers that recharge at different rates.

On the other hand, several people have tried to cobble together a Magic: The Gathering RPG over the years, with varying degrees of success. For those who may be unfamiliar with the game, M:tG is a collectible card game, where everyone plays... yes, you guessed it: a wizard.

Perhaps you could combine two problems to create one solution, here? :)

#98047 Rolemaster Session 03

Posted by Pencil-Monkey on 23 March 2016 - 09:59 AM

It is done.  There is a fresh thread in the new patron area.  I'm sure I missed some gems but I hope it will prove a useful summary.

Good work! I've sent you a message with links to some more Patron-only audio to add to the list, including:

BAG - 2007 Halloween Special: Coffee Break of the Living Dead
BAG - SLA Industries (2 Sessions plus character gen), which includes an extremely rare photo of Steve B. (AKA Balgin of Torm, AKA Susan) in combat with a deadly feline adversary. :)
BAG - Trinity (6 Sessions), where Ross spends considerable effort to remind everyone else that this is supposed to be a serious game.

my good lady says i arnt allowed a mid-life crises till i have been a grown up for at least 12 month's :(

Wow, you know this is a serious game, when something like "hand cranking the manual release" gets by without so much as a snigger.

Thistledown Gamers Guild - Crusaders episode 2 & 3 (HERO System)
Thistledown Gamers Guild - D&D 4E - The Purifiers (sessions 13-16, that haven't made it to the main site)
Thistledown Gamers Guild - Hunter: The Vigil Session 01

OK! We have another new group in the form of the Thistledown Gamers Guild. They are tackling White Wolf's Hunter: The Vigil (a game I was going to run a while ago and then realised I had no time left).

I am releasing it here in the Patrons Area but I am not certain it will ever make it to the main site due to White Wolf's rather draconian fansite rules. I have tried making contact with WW but have yet to hear back from them.

ThistledownJohn also posted a rather nice introduction for his group in that thread, check it out if you're an interested Patron. :)

There's plenty more shiny audio still left in the old Patron section, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

(It seems that Site Fartists, like yours truly, are able to access the Patron section, but can't post in it.)

#98023 Breaking the Jade Fast

Posted by Pencil-Monkey on 21 March 2016 - 08:24 AM

I shall be trying again with this shortly. A new session was played recently. The dreaded book 3 is complete.

Huzzah! :D Let's see, that means they're on to book 4...

Pathfinder Adventure Path #52: Forest of Spirits (Jade Regent 4 of 6): The PCs arrive in Tian Xia only to learn what they had feared has come true: the empire of Minkai is controlled by a despotic ruler known as the Jade Regent. His agents lie in wait for the PCs and watch every road into the empire, but an unlikely friend shows the travelers a hidden route south into Minkai, revealing that the Jade Regent works for an ancient organization of evil spirits called the Five Storms.

Well, that's totally not going to be confusing, considering Aimee's character's name and all. ;)

This volume of Pathfinder Adventure Path includes:

  • Deadly guardian geisha and a journey into one of Oda’s seedier gambling houses in the Pathfinder’s Journal, by Dave Gross.

Y'know, the party already sampled one of the Viking Nation's dens of iniquity - they really need to try this one, too, for comparative purposes. :P Misty will be very popular, no doubt.

#98022 Rolemaster Session 03

Posted by Pencil-Monkey on 21 March 2016 - 08:23 AM

There's no Rolemaster episodes in the Patron-exclusive section.
What is to be found there is: Tomb of Hagguemoth, Friezurazov, and an Inspectres one-shot.
But not Rolemaster.

They're still available in the Patron Archives, AFAIK, but you need to go looking for them.

Frankly, there's tons of really cool audio tucked away down there, which never made it to either the main release or the Patrons-Only section of the new site. Lockhart has been transferring a lot of Yorkton Gamer Patron-Exlusive goodies to the new site, but the other groups have mostly left their old gems buried.

For example, the BAGgies recorded loads of one-shots and short campaigns (Red Box D&D, Toon, SLA Industries, Trinity...) that are well worth the effort to locate. Hearing Ross play a pimply-faced 1st-level Wizard is one of the most hilarious experiences I've ever had from the audio on this site - and that's saying something!

#98021 Been a long time coming. . .

Posted by Pencil-Monkey on 21 March 2016 - 08:23 AM

I have confidence in our direction going forward (or maybe sideways).

*Glances at Mr. Steve's profile picture*

Or in an L-shape, perhaps? ;)

#97992 Been a long time coming. . .

Posted by Pencil-Monkey on 16 March 2016 - 08:36 AM

Well it's been a long time coming but there might just be some new audio starting to trickle up to the site from our group.  Keep your eyes peeled true believer. . .

Huzzah! :D I wonder what kind of game it might be?

Hmm... by interpreting the subtle clues hidden in Mr. Steve's message, I deduce that it must involve... Ninjas! Or the Spanish Inquisition! (Nobody expects the etc.)

Huzzah. Looking forward to this. Been a while :)

Yeah, the most recent audio from the BAGgies was the second episode of their TORG game, which was released on the site on March 22nd, 2015 - almost exactly a year ago, now. That's a looong time to go through BAG-withdrawal.

#97974 10 Best Marvel Comics

Posted by Pencil-Monkey on 12 March 2016 - 06:28 AM

I’m sorry I’m just not over that wolverine cover

Kurt’s clearly naked

Logan’s glaring at his dick

Classic porn cover poses

Esad Ribic explain yourself please

Also please note the placement of the beer bottle.

I once was at a show where I asked Esad about this cover.

Esad is a big, cheerful, man with a wicked sense of humor.

He just looked at me.

And then he smiled.

And the smile got bigger.

And bigger.

And he said, “And nobody at Marvel noticed!”

And then he couldn’t stop laughing.

#97773 Houston gaming podcasts - Max's Minions & The Gauntlet

Posted by Pencil-Monkey on 18 January 2016 - 08:20 AM

If Hal ever manages to get a Texan gaming con up and running, Randy Lander & co. from the Randy Plays Games podcast would probably appreciate an invitation, as well. (Granted, Round Rock, TX, is around 200 miles from Houston, but it's still neat that there's now at least three RPG Actual Play gaming podcasts from the state of Texas, alone.)
