OK! Here is a little game I have been playing for a while now. It is a multiplayer game but it is web based and quite cool :D

Nexus War

My character is called Foxheart and is currently fighting up the levels and is hopefully going to remain of Good alignment although the temptation is strong ;)

If we get enough folks playing we can perhaps start up a new faction :D

Let me know what you think ;)

Wobbly the repairman lives... :)

It seems to use a similar engine to Urban Dead. Cool.

It is similar to Urban Dead. However you can become Angels and Devils and all sorts of stuff :P

I am an engineer with a few combat skills and the ability to sense morality (so I only attack evil folks :D )

So far it has been a little diversion for 5 minutes or so a day ;)

The name foxheart seems close to your (no pun intended) heart. Any reason for this? Old character from your favourite game?

It is actually the name of a very old MUD character I used to play on a purpose built MUD called Island back in the day before WoW and other things with graphics ;)

I use it as a character name in things quite often, but it is rare for me to use it in any of the tabletop games I play :P (Not that I get the chance to play them very often :D )

Ahhh... well, I'd have to say "Shathis" is the same for me. Minus using it for a ... what did you call it, a "MUD". And... there was a time before graphics?!?!?! *blink blink blink*

"Multi User Dungeon". It was invented at the University of Essex in England by Roy Trubshaw and Richard Bartle and is the forerunner of them all. The term is also used to classify a type of game, typically a multi-user text based adventure.

Dr Bartle's excellent "Designing Virtual Worlds" tells the whole story, and many others in the development of these forerunners of the MMORPG's etc of today.

Interestingly enough, there is still a huge interest in these text systems, that are in general free to play, via a simple telnet connection or Java client. I still look in on "Realms of Despair" and "The Discworld MUD" which is great if you are a Terry Pratchet fan.

Rather sadly, the last MUD I played was AberMUD in the late 80s...

Back to Nexuswar, how do we go about starting a faction then? I've got 2 characters that will probably hit lvl 2 in the next few days, with 1 who as she has ranged combat and her next skill will be Sense Morality, should level to 3 not long afterwards... :)

Must be easy enough as there are lost of factions ;) Perhaps you need to be level 20 to start one or something. I will go and read the Wiki.

Everyone Must Join Up And Play

I keep getting killed because I am Good :(

Aha! You are joined by the ranged weapon specialist Tuborg, a sort of useless gun-toting twat!

Ok, I've joined with Ranged Combat (not that that's very useful at the mo), and am a cowering newbie. How do I join your evil cult - sorry, happy faction? :D

Not sure why we have negative karma though. But yes, we are pretty sh*t.

BTW Isis, Sense Morality? is probably the next skill you want to take. That way you know who to shoot BEFORE they shoot you!

 At the moment I'm running away from everybody, not waiting to find out their morality. I'm hoping one day I'll be brave enough to speak to somebody.
I keep running out of AP!

Dying doesn't hurt too much at level 1 (it costs your level in APs to respawn).

However, Maddy's next skill will be melee combat as she can't find either ammo or full guns in the gunstore for love nor money!
