Yesterday, Nick The Vegan and I decided it was time to give character creation a try with 5e.

I had already done some and found it pretty straightforward. It also ends up with a pretty nice character at the end of things.

Here are the results of our Herculean labors.

Be kind, comment, share and like and stuff.

This may also mark the start of Geek-A-Saurus again... maybe :)

Take a look at Nick's Wood Elf Rogue

Cheers

:) Good good - we miss you guys... :)

Perhaps we can do some kind of Aethernauts - RPGMP3 collaboration of some kind :)

So, will there be a game where we can see this character in action?

Also I can't seem to find where the character sheet is. (video said "the character is available on RPGMP3 for review and perusal." I have no idea where to look :unsure2: )

Honestly, I would love to see 5e early level game. Just to see the system in action. And maybe an actual review of the system as a whole. I heard that later levels aren't kind to the fighter and rogue class. As magic seems to overshadow them.

I am just creating the sheet now :)

And yes - this character will be taken into the Lost Mines of Phandelver tomorrow evening ;) So hopefully we should see the audio and vide out by Wednesday :)

Once I have played it a little I can have a stab at reviewing the system :)

Starting with 19 Dex.. That's very strong for lvl 1. Considering the cap on ability scores is 20. (baring any magic items, like a belt of giant strength)
On level 4 he could take +1 to strength and constitution, bringing him to 20 and 16. And he is set after that.
He certainly will be rocking that bow in combat. :D

I am looking forward to Lost Mines of Philanderer then. Maybe I can convince my friend that 5th ed isn't so bad. He had an initial reaction that it's awful. And I'm paraphrasing here "they took the fighter out behind a shed and shot it". So I am curious if he is right.

Oh, will we be getting sheets for the other party members?

Rolling stats - not unreasonable to start at 19 - he rolled a 17 and dropped it into his prime stat.

The other rogue I rolled up that Lindsay will likely play as a 18 Dex and is a Halfling. I think the Lucky ability for the Halfling is going to be pretty good.

We are going to try and cover all four races and all four classes so we get to see how everything performs.

Not sure about the Fighter but Mage and Cleric spells do seem to have a good kick too them this time around. It will be interesting to see how the classes go toe to toe.

When the PHB comes out and hopefully bring magic items and the like with it I might spec up some characters at various levels and see how they go toe to toe.

I've heard that combat seems fairly harsh, similar to you guys' experience with Keep on the Shadowfell. Good luck! I was impressed by the hallfling luck ability as well, but after thinking about it, it works out to less than a +1 on attacks and saves, and halflings had a +1 to all saves in PF/D&D3, and a +1 size bonus to hit, so it might not actually be all that awesome, although the feeling of 'damn, I rolled a one...but wait!' might make up for it. They do mostly get to use full size weapons, at least.

You are right - but in a system where the numbers are constrained I think a reroll of a 1 might be a good advantage especially in combat.

So far - combat seems more streamlined that 4e from what I can tell but we will only really know when we manage to get in there and have a fight.

We will see tonight when the game is on :D

Character sheet looks a lot clearer than 3rd edition. Still don't see why Elf shouldn't simply be a class, but that's just me... *grumble grumble get off my lawn etc*...  ;-)

Because that would create some really weird interactions with the multiclassing rules. And also because your humanocentric bigotry is no basis for a system of government! Lobbing swords about, that's the way! Now, Minsc leads! Swords for everyone! Go for the eyes!

... *sheepish cough*  Pardon me. Got carried away there. Lack of sleep, maybe.

Ah well, that's another thing. I don't think a class-based system works if you have to have multiclassing. Personal dislike and I'm very much in the minority, so not a relevant criticism of the game as it is.

Nick's Wood Elf Rogue has been uploaded - what do you guys think?

Hal :hal:

5'1" and 128 pounds? Kinda chubby for an elf, although with a 15 constitution, it makes some sense.

Well, that's why he says "axe" and not "axes." His walking axe had just been broken, so all he had left was his fighting axe, although it looks like he found a replacement before setting out.
