Hey folks,

Just sat reading the DnD 5e Basic Rules with the dog and prepping for picking up the Starter Set tomorrow morning. I have plans to do an unboxing and a review of the things and then hopefully we can get some Dungeon ON! and try the Starter Set adventure, Lost Mine of Phandelver.

What are you guys thinking of it so far?

Awesome - I'll grab that too :)

Then we can do the one from the Starter Set and that one :)

So - we played the first game of Lost Mine of Phandelver last night with a party of 5.

The video is currently sat on my computer ready to upload and the audio is on Lockhart's recorder, hopefully being sent at some point today so I can get it out on the feed this evening :) Due to issues at our end I don't trust the audio quality so @Lockhart has been recording the audio and sending them to me and they have been better quality for the most part - Grrrrr Comcast!

I felt the game went well - the characters are interesting and even having two rogues in the party at level 1 they felt significantly different. The first fight was a typical Level 1 struggle where every hit has the potential to fell someone.

There were some rules snafus in there but we are still learning and I think we manage to correct everything by the end.

As it was just the start of the adventure there was some background and set up and some character description stuff before we got into the meat of things.

The party at the moment consists of:

Lindsay as Marigold Mudpetal - Stout Halfling Rogue specializing in Stealth, Perception, Thieves Tools and wielding 2 shortsword to great effect

Things as Thror Rumnaheim - Mountain Dwarf Cleric of Moradin

Heather as Heleh Thornvast - High Elf Wizard using ranged attack spells to aid the party

Nick as Guybrush Threpwood - Wood Elf Rogue so awesome he even managed to steal his name. Specializing in archery and Acrobatics.

Lockhart as Roderick Hellbeater - Human Fighter of the Protector variety - clearly he has some kind of death wish

And I am running it - hopefully managing to do it some justice :)

Nick as Guybrush Threpwood

I bet he wields that rapier like a dairy farmer. :)

Surprisingly Monkey - he does wield a rapier :P But we have yet to see him try to use it :D

He does have a petrified mouse called Gary, who is coaching not to be scared of everything...

Is the mouse coaching the elf, or is the elf coaching the petrified mouse? Either way, sounds like an inverted Minsc.

(Good thing this isn't Lockhart's character, or he'd be carrying a petrified moose.) ;)

I cannot wait for this to hit the podcast & YouTube feeds.

Does it include the character creation, or do you all get straight into it?

Considering that your other current campaign featured a recently-deceased elf intern called Gary, my pre-emptive head-canon is going to be: Gary the Petrified Mouse is actually the result of Gary the Elf having been brought back with a Reincarnate spell, and then had an unfortunate encounter with a medusa.

Gary: Squeak yeah! I'm back, baby!
*Snake head slowly rises in front of him, tongue flickering ominously*
Gary: Aw, crap. :(

There is a character creation video for Nick's character here...

But the rest was done off screen so to speak.

I will get copies of all the characters up onto the site shortly (when the players send them to me) :)

I'm just on session 7. Recently deceased? WHAT? GARY?!

I've got one handy, so long as no one minds the large metal bit on the end ;)

Whoa! Hold on, hoss. How can it be a spoiler, when all your social media outlets have had giant flashing red lights and a "SHATTERED STAR TPK" klaxon going for weeks? :P

After opening that last spoiler I see the error of my ways in pointing out that Monkey made a spoiler.

Now I need to go and find a spoon for my eyes...

Just got finished with the first game.  6 items were added to the List.

I will not name my character Bab Thaco.

If our expenses are to be reimbursed, we are not to turn the adventure into a transcontinental epic quest.

Especially if the adventure was originally clean out the goblins from the cave.

The Thaumaturgy spell is not to be used for: BRIAN BLESSED impersonations, slamming the door on people wanting to tell me about their religion, the clapper.

We aren't going to start 5th edition by waking up and finding Mystra in the shower.
Bring the goblins to justice doesn't mean knock them all out and then march them back for a public apology.
