Is it based on the number of posts, or how well Hal likes you, or...?

One of the many perks of being a Patron is choosing your own title.

Used to be :) Now Patrons get double gold pieces for posts instead :D

There are levels based on the number of posts you have made - each level is a monster going up the Challenge Ratings on Pathfinder.

I can also set subtitles for various reasons :)

How about making cheap Inventory items that people can buy to change their forum titles? Maybe something unlockable, so you can still only get titles appropriate to your 'level', but so you at least get the opportunity to change it to something else without having to make another thousand posts.

Monster masks, maybe? Of course, it would require a system that lets you discard/equip different items, so the site knows which mask you're wearing, and which title it should assign to you - or maybe the masks are consumables, like some of the NPC 'items' and scrolls, so you activate it after buying it, and then it changes your forum title.

It is a shade in the phallic side. Perhaps you could bypass it with some kind of cooling ointment... ?
