So instead of cake, I thought I'd make some cupcakes instead.

This might be too early a call but I think we need a gaming-snack-discussion-forum!

That idea has come up once or twice, in the past. :)

Its time for an RPGMP3 Gaming Noms Cookbook people!

Lindsay and I spoke about it a while ago when she was making tasty egg and sausage muffin things for the game.

If we get enough recipes perhaps we can get something put together and sell it as a PDF / print to order dealy!

Perhaps separate the recipes by genre of game :)

Mr. Hafwit even tracked down a recipe (allegedly) from Whartson Hall, and Mr. Steve teased us with the possibility of reading Private Tinklebash's secret recipes.

And of course, anyone who's listened to an OOTAK recording will be familiar with the legendary Food HourTM, usually sponsored by the talented Becky. :)

A few recipes from her blog:

Italian Cream Cheese Chicken Crock Pot

Eric's favorite Chicken Parmesan (including Becky's special spaghetti sauce recipe)

French Onion Soup (also for Eric)

Lemon Rosemary Spaghetti Squash

Gluten Free Sweet Potato Muffins

Melon jam - or possibly jelly

Experimental casserole

Devil's Flan (hybrid Devil's Food Cake & Flan)

Cream Cheese Brownies

Pumpkin/Parmesan/Java/Coffeecake (see picture)

And this would seem to be the pear drops-flavored cake recipe that Mary the Macaroon Fairy used for Tina's birthday, as previously described in mouth-watering detail on audio. :)

Pretty sure that cupcake tastes like failure and loneliness, Monkey :)

But I found a recipe if anyone wants to give them a try and report back...

Or someone in Florida can visit 4 Rivers Smokehouse and try one of the originals... GO GO GO!

Hmm... There are seven members who have registered their location as "Florida", but only one of them, @lemur, has ever been active on the site - with one single post, back in 2005. (!)

Looks like the site isn't too popular in Florida, or the site Floridians are just shy. ;) Might be faster to bake some yourself, and try 'em out.

Maybe I can persuade Lindsay to bake some as I am a terrible terrible disaster when I try to bake anything :)

Can cook - can't bake unless you want the kitchen and most of the house looking like a sticky bomb has gone off. A delicious sticky bomb!

Recently (re)listened to one of the episodes where you guys were still in Bradford, and Lindsay regaled the other players with detailed stories of how you'd tried to cook hash browns, and ended up with hash blacks, and a kitchen filled with smoke. ;)

I forgot about them :) But hash blacks are clearly a traditional northern thing... Right?

See - they are even in a museum so they must be a thing :)

Speaking of which, here's a recipe for Dwarf Bread, if anyone's up for the challenge of cooking fantasy-flavored snacks for their next gaming session.

This is a very solid bread, and rather friable, but very tasty when fresh. It is good toasted the next day, but thereafter should be used only as a doorstop or for sinking ducks! I have never tried freezing it.

This bread is greyish inside, rather than brown, because of the oatmeal and rye flour.

  • 8oz rye flour
  • 8oz malted wheatmeal flour
  • 8oz pinhead oatmeal
  • 8oz strong brown flour
  • 2 tablespoons soya flour
  • 2 tablespoons whole wheat grains
  • 2 tablespoons brown rice
  • 2 tablespoons pot barley
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon muscavado sugar
  • 1 sachet instant dried yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Warm water to mix.
Combine all the dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix to a dough with the oil and sufficient water (the exact amount will depend on how dry the flour and grains are). Kneed as long as possible on a lightly oiled surface

Shape into a round lump on an oiled baking tray, and flatten slightly or cut into 8 segments with a large knife. Leave to prove in a warm place for 1½ or 2 hrs. It will get about half as big again, but not double because of the whole grains.

Bake at 200C for 35 – 40 minutes, until golden brown on the outside. Serve hot with a good thick soup. Also very good with honey!

Oh hey @Tulty - next time you guys are playing Settlers, you could make some Discworld-y Dwarf Bread Pizza, for your now-traditional "flatbread"-dining LARP experience. ;)

Dwarf Bread Pizza

Serves: 2
Ingredients
Makes two pizzas

  • 300 g rye flour
  • 300 g white bread flour
  • 2 packets of fast action yeast (7g each)
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • Very warm water (amount of water will depend on the flour you use)
Instructions
  • Place all dry ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  • Start pouring in the water. It needs to be quite warm, but not hot. Add enough water to mix all the ingredients and achieve quite wet dough. No kneeding is required just mixing the dough well.
  • Cover the bowl with wet towel and leave for 1.5 to 2 hours in warm place to rise.
  • When dough is ready divide it in half and place each half on pizza tray. Dough will be very sticky. Sprinkle with a bit of flour and spread the dough with your fingers on the tray.
  • Cover with toppins of your choise and bake in 220 - 250 degrees Celsius oven for aprox 20 minutes.
Notes
Time and temperature will vary depending on the oven you use. Keep an eye on the pizza when baked for the first time to find the perfect time/temp setting for your oven.

Hey @anim5, you've got Mark Kinney from AGC podcast playing in your game these days, right? (When he shows up, that is...) Do the Gutter Skypes have any gamer grub recipes you'd like to share?
