Bah!

It seems that the recent storm and power outage we had here blow out my big HDD that I use to store all the site stuff on even though it was attached to a surge protector. It powers up and then powers off.

Looks like I am in the market for a new HDD. I was thinking about a NAS, perhaps if I pick up an old Drobo or something I might be able to pop the old drive and see if it still works...

Sadly it means my workflow is not disrupted so I might be a little slow with our group releases until I get something to replace the drive.

Bah! Bah! Bah!

Ha ha ha!

I don't think we lost anything. Everything is either on the site space or still on Vecna (the recording computer).

I will break the case open and pull the drive and see if I can throw it in a caddy and see if the data can be accessed but from how it sounds it is not good.

I've got a WD NAS. It's OK, though only single disk. In theory I could torrent etc through it.

Was about £100 for 2TB, about a year ago...

I like the idea of something more robust than a single drive but at the moment I don't think there is sufficient extra funds in the site to make it happen.

It may be time for a new Patron recruitment drive :)

I bought a Synology NAS years ago and I *love* it.

Easily one of the best purchases I've made. A bit more expensive than some of their competitors but it has been more than worth it.

My wife and I back it up to an external hard drive we put in our safety deposit box.

Aw, that sucks. Lucky nothing was lost; I had an external hard drive corrupt itself in University, and I lost about half my childhood's worth of photographs, all because I forgot to back up. Damn you, technology! *shakes fist*
