Just letting everyone know that I'll be at Gen Con this weekend!

I'm in author's alley if you want to come by and say hello. Just look for the Dire Destiny signs.

I want to come by... but I'm not going (sniff). Gen Con is always too close to the start of the semester (sniff).

Maybe next year??

I need to get my ass there - and to some more cons as well.

How can I expect to run a website about gaming without going to cons? Oh wait... :)

Hal, you could always start your own.... Just not in the winter. Texans, in my experience, have no idea how to drive that one day a year they get snow.

Last time I was there, 15 car pile-up outside of Ft. Worth the one morning snow lasted more than an hour.

Gen Con! Count me in...  Australia.

Unfortunately the <insert anything that might not be considered mainstream*> scene in this country is rather limited.

Have a good time everyone.

If that's the only hold-up, couldn't the problem be solved by sending out teams of highly trained Hal-stunt-doubles?

I actually own a web address for a con in Texas :) BIGcon.org :)

Perhaps it might be time to see if I can start to reach some feelers out and see if the waters and ready for a gaming con here. We have OwlCon and SpaceCity Con but I think this city could certainly handle something on a grander scale :P

@ScaleGraze, are you in Oz?  I am considering a temporary visit and was checking out the scene.  There seemed to be a number of cons in that area when I had a look.  Wasn't there a PAX in Melbourne in July?

You may well be right, tbh I haven't really tried to venture out of my own gaming clique. And due to the explosion of all things geek in recent years (read more than 10) it's quite possible that things have changed.
It is a general rule however that anything that has a limited market audience generally doesn't do so well over here due to a smaller population spread over a ridiculous land mass.
I suppose my limited experience has lead me to just assume that this rule still applies as I continue to game within my small cluster of acquaintances.
The main thing I suppose I was frustrated by was that the majority of the lovely people I have come to know through the site are in or near the US or UK, and I'm jealous :(
But now that you begin to shine the bright light of reality into my den of geekdom I feel exposed and request that you let me shake my stick at the world in peace.
Unless you would like to join me, I have a fine collection of sticks down here if you'd like to see my collection :)

If you're anywhere near Perth, you might want to inquire about Drhoz, who is a scholar and a gentleman, and runs some amazing games; mostly CoC and various Warhammer 40k.

Even if you're too far away to join his games physically, he does plenty of write-ups of his gaming sessions, and if you're very nice with sugar on top, he might share some of his AP recordings. :)

Wow, @Pencil-Monkey, you are well connected.

Unfortunately I'm about 3.5 thousand kilometers from Perth (by road) :)

So a similar drive as say Miami to Vancouver or perhaps Bradford to Athens, but less to see and much, much more of this:

As I said I hope to be visiting your continent at some point soon and would love to compare stick collections if we are in the same neighbourhood :)

Hal, if you're desperate for a con, there's going to be one in Waco next month.  It's small, but it's fairly close to you and we have a guest bed.
