Good Sir Monkey,
You have my deepest sympathies...

Let me know if I can be of any help in your Danish time of need.

Hugs,
Gilbert

Sin taxes are nothing new though. The joke here is that cigs cost 14$ a pack but heart surgery is free. Through the taxes the smoker ends up paying for the health care.

All I know, is that if they start taxing Ben and Jerry's here in Texas, I'M SCREWED! I just discovered Bonnaroo Buzz... that shit is like creamy heroine and I am a VERY willing crack head. Yes I know I mixed my metaphors, but that's what that stuff has done to me!

If they start taxing fruit and sepia ink, I will be seriously miffed!

Tempted to make a joke about 'moorish' and 'smoked salmon', but apparently you people have a strained relationship with the black community - you 'Merkhins, that is. :)

I'd pay money to see you get miffed. Miffed really hard... :D

Just curious Monkey Toes... Does the pastry danish come from Denmark? And if so, do y'all have like really awesome danish shoppes?

Yes and no; it's become a national specialty, but the original recipe came from Vienna when the country imported a load of foreign bakers. The Copenhagen Post, a newspaper in English for immigrants and tourists, had a really neat article on the topic, giving a detailed history of the Danish pastry's origins - however, it appears they've neglected to put it online (the link goes to the segment of the paper that presented the pastry-ological dissertation - if you manage to find it, more power to you).

Anyway, let me just Google that for you.

Yeah, I thought about Googling it, but the last time I visited Wikipedia for information about the Norse Land O'Danes, I believe a certain simian poet/doodler/thorn-in-my-side chastised me for doing hasty research. I thought it best to go directly to the most intelligent source of all knowledge Danish and/or Scandinavian, but he wasn't available, so I left a forum post for you to find.

Squishy hugs,
