You know how sometimes when you're layed up, you get really crazy ideas? Granted, I get crazy ideas all the time, but usually something else comes along to distract me. Not so this time.

This little guy is about to be released into the wild (with my daughter's help, of course). Any of you who recognize the logo on his "potty papers" knows exactly what will happen. For those who don't, Funka (yes, Hal, that's his name) will make his way--very slowly--from Eastern Tennessee, hopefully to Texas (though I can gurantee he will not take a direct route). When he arrives at a location in the Houston area, I'll make arrangements to have him dropped off at a public place for one of the Texan crew to retrieve.

Once I get him bugged-up (a technical term) and registered I'll post the link to his tracking page. Yes, its a lame hobby, but there may be a few of y'all who might get a kick out of watching his travels. And if the GaS site gets a few dozen more hits out of the deal, maybe Hal and Lindsay will record another episode. :-)

My original Crazy Idea was to bug-up a little pug for the journey. Alas, my spawn was unable to locate a suitable figurine (plushies are unsuitable for the job, since they tend to acquire odd smells and mold colonies while spending time in damp ammo cans). She found this great acrylic dino, though, so "Ruby the Travel-Pug", evolved into "Funka the Traveling Geek-a-Saurus". :-D

The tracking tag should arrive early next week, then I'll send "Team Ieqo" out to drop Funka into what we colloquially call a "bug motel". Then with the summer caching season upon us, off he'll go.

I'm actually excited about this. Over the years I've found and helped move dozens of these "travel bugs", but this'll be the first one of my own I "release". Like I said, it is a lame hobby, but people who roll dice in basements shouldn't throw stones.

Well, as promised here is the tracking page. Once the rain lets up, April and I will set him on his way.

Been raining contstantly here. My able-bodied assistants are intimidated by mud-slogging, so yes, he's still here. :-(

Then stop throwing mud at them all the time and let your minions get on with minioning! :)

I noticed that the person who first found him mentioned that their son goes to college in Houston, but they didn't want to hang on to him through the summer 'till their son goes back to school. I was half-tempted to send a message asking if their son is studying dentistry... But then I decided I'd be too upset of they said, "yes". :-)

He's moving though!

He's currently enjoying a nice Florida vacation. I told you it wouldn't be a direct path to Texas. :-)

Just as I had begun to consider writing our little traveller off, I see that he's been quite the popular little creature at Disney these past couple months. Hey, Funka! Texas is that way! *points west*

On this evidence dinosaurs may not be extinct, they could just be travelling very, very slowly in the wrong direction...
