Most of the home produced files use the MP3Pro format which, while giving usual quality playback on any normal MP3 player, will give better quality playback on MP3Pro compatible software & devices.

Details for MP3Pro can be found at:
http://www.mp3prozone.com/

Download a free MP3Pro player (for PCs) at:
http://www.mp3prozone.com/download.htm

- you can use the above player to easily switch the MP3Pro setting on & off to hear the difference in quality.

WinAmp MP3Pro plugin (for WinAmp 2 or 5)

For Macintosh computers you can use Audion:

If you haven't tried the MP3Pro facility yet it can make a real difference to the audio quality. 8)

Unfortunately there's not many hardware players that support it due to the licensing fees I believe. :(

I recently got one of those USB Vase Speakers - very neat and excellent for listening to the audio files. :)

You can even get them done as promotional items if you've got the cash.

I know this is not going to be the most popular of suggestions, but here goes. I find that WMA 9.x format, which is supported on all major Mp3 players - and can be played on MacAmp or Windows Media Player for mac, certainly on windows and has compatible players on Linux is just as good as MP3PRO. Since MP3PRO is not so ubiquitous, and while I know Microsoft is not popular, the Audio format is quite good. At 32kbps it's just as good as MP3PRO of similar rate, same size and has quite nice balance. Since my flash player can't play pro files, it's what I convert all my RPGMP3 files into.

For those who'd like to know how to convert MP3PRO into other formats, you can go to www.dbpoweramp.com, download DBPowerAmp and go to Codec Central on the same site and pick up the MP3Pro codec and WMA codec. Install them both and follow the MP3Pro codec's instructions on setup.

All RPGMP3 files appear to be encoded in 32kbps MP3Pro format. To get the same quality in WMA format, convert it using the aforementioned program to WMA9.1 32kbps (but ONLY with the proper codec setup, otherwise you're converting only base MP3 data and missing out on the high quality)
You can get the same quality out of a regular mp3 by converting it to 64k. Both will play on almost any mp3 player. Almost no player can play MP3pro natively, and will only play low-quality mp3 when you transfer it.

Hey Folks

I am suspecting that stuff like this is either some kind of 'bot or some kind of idiot :D

We have been having a spate of posts there the entire first post is quoted and the text is left blank. I suspect it is just something designed to annoy the good hard working users of these webboards.

In any case, as Fin's wedding fast approaches we are in the process of timetabling some sessions for WLD that will hopefully allow us to jump the gap where he is away consumating his union :D

We are also looking into a system of indiviual microphones for the WLD games that should allow for a marked improvement of recording quality. So that should be interesting ;)

Keep listening!

Cheers

How about just putting little probes on your foreheads to DETECT THE THOUGHTS OF THE PLAYERS! *mu-hahaha* Talk about "recording your entire lives".

That is pure evil and I imagine that a good deal of it would be very boring, except Fin's which I think would have to have a new form of explicit tag that hasn't been invented yet. Maybe one that can detect your age and call the cops if you attempt to download the file. :D
