Looks like a neat recorder, good early reviews.

Solid State, has the ability to record in 2 or 4 channel Surround Sound, built in (4 mics in a W/XY set-up). Records in 16-bit or 24-bit at 96kHz or 48kHz WAV audio files. You can also record in MP3 format, up to 320 kbps.

I'd heard about this coming out.

Wonder how it would do with a table full of gamers? Might be nice for recording panels and stuff at cons in its 120 degree mode :)

Whats the price tag?

Isn't the fundable for a new recorder? :D

I use the Zoom H4 (starting with session 5) and it gets high marks from me. The only problem I had was remembering to press "rec" twice to actually start recording, but thankfully that came up during a test run, not an actual game.

Yes but the target was well exceeded...nearly doubled infact, right? So Hal might go to town on the main recorder or stick to the plan and use cash for the server or a new weird microphone or whatever. Who knows?

Heh.

Well, we've had a battery-died-halfway episode. Thank goodness for AC adapters! Although that did change the audio quality, as the jack for the adapter is on the bottom of the recorder, necessitating that we lie it down to continue recording.

I have new batteries, so session 8 will be back to the stand-up recording.

A clear design flaw! :O

Just tried the Zoom H2, recording an RPG session with its 'Surround Sound' setting down at BURPS.

Seems to work very well, can hear people around the table quite clearly, and that's only using the 2 channel rather than 4 channel recording option.

Small, portable, light.

Recommended.

I think the new recorder Hal got still trumps this new, nice little contraption. I think they're for different customers as well. Hal picked up a Marantz, which is in essence a budget professional recorder -- as opposed to this, which is a luxury hobbyist recorder. High end of low end versus low end of high end, so to speak.

Have I confused everyone sufficiently, now? :D

Looking at how the H4 and h2 have their mics setup i reckon i might invest in a pair of stereo mics for my Marantz and see if I can achieve the same effect...

Ah, Shathis, but Paul's new recorder is only for recording out and about. He still has his original quality recorder (possibly the same as Hal's) for normal 'in-house' games :D

Indeed the original recorder we've had for a couple of years is the same as Hal plans to get, though ours was bought 2nd hand.

This is just much smaller & very portable (in your pocket). Not really comparing apples to apples, but if other people are after something that can produce decent results without spending a huge amount, I think this is pretty good.

Hopefully that does not confuse anyone.
